I unstalled the SUSE linux about 10 days ago, but have only had a
chance to look at it over the last three days. I managed to
configure a network card and can use the machine as a web
server, accessible from anywhere on the school network. I have
installed the netware client and have now managed to access my
files from the linux box. I have connected to a netware printer
queue using a linux supplied driver ( chosen from the list ) and have
printed successfully.
Ihave installed applix Officeware ( I await a Star Office CD - a free
office suite from Sun, available for Win 9* or Linux). Once Star is
installed on Linux and Win 9* I shall have a completely transparent
system - pupils will be able to use Linux or Windows with no
difference (assuming Star Office stores in a common file format for
each platform).
The only job left is to find a way for users to access their email -
we use mercry and Pegasus, which puts the email directly into
their filespace. This shouldn't be too difficult ( I hope).
Not bad for only a few days work.
Really pleased with myself!!
