Das ist schon sehr lange Unfug, wenn's überhaupt mal stimmte.
Ich verwende hier passend zum Monitor 'nomodeset vga=795' (1280x1024x24bit) mit ner nvidia-Karte und proprietärem Treiber.
OK; ich kam drauf weil ich (seitdem ich den NVidia Treiber installiert habe) das hier in /v/l/m finde:

Muß ich nochmal drauf achten, hier auf der alten oS 12.1 verwende ich "splash=native vga=normal nomodeset" zusammen mit dem nvidia-Treiber 295.49 (spätere, 304.x z.B.) machten hier lange Probleme, aber s.u. Die Modul-Config sieht dazu so aus: blacklist nouveau blacklist ttm blacklist drm_kms_helper blacklist drm blacklist nvidiafb und das Kernel-Modul ist _nicht_ in der initrd enthalten. $ grep FB /etc/sysconfig/console FB_MODULES="" FBSET_PARAMS="" $ grep MOD /etc/sysconfig/kernel INITRD_MODULES="thermal powernow_k8 sd_mod scsi_mod ext3" DOMU_INITRD_MODULES="xennet xenblk" MODULES_LOADED_ON_BOOT="" Ich boote in runlevel 3. Im neuen Gentoo: "splash=native vga=795 nomodeset" keine initrd. Wobei ich mit nicht sicher bin, ob der mit X11/nvidia zusammenläuft, IIRC aber schon (d.h. boot wie oben mit vga=795 und dann Start von X11). Muß ich mal wieder testen. Achso, das war mit Kernel 4.4.5.
