Thanks Adrian and Robert.

--local-package was indeed the option is was looking for.

I was able to do a local build with

osc build --local-package --root=/tmp/mybuildroot 
--alternative-project=openSUSE:11.4 x86_64


So far so good. Next step is to setup and use a local obs server.
