according to my build logs, installing something into /opt/packagename is
forbidden in FHS 2.2??
What's with that now?
...especially when I read up about FHS 2.2 and its explicitly allowed to
install into /opt/packagename...
Where did you read that?
What I found is:

here's the log output:

is not allowed anymore in FHS 2.2.
[...] line repeats for every single file in my package.
However, I've the same problem and for a bunch of reasons, I am unable to move
away from /opt.
