Subject: [opensuse-buildservice] Using packages from external repositories To: opensuse-buildservice@opensuse.org Repositories such as Guru and Packman offer a huge number of packages which are either not available through the BS or are of much more recent versions. Now for the most part it would be silly and seemingly unappreciative to duplicate their work by offering these packages in the BS as well. However, what do we do if we want to build a package with the BS which relies on a package which is not available through the BS but _is_ on, say, Packman?
Has anyone else encountered this problem and if so, how did you get round it? Do I really have to repackage all my dependencies with the BS?
you have. but often it is enough to ask pascal or the other packages to co maintain the package in the buildservice with you. pascal does that already. some of the packmans too. (hello detlef;) just a few remarks. 1. some of the guru/packman packages cant be build in the buildservice by policy. (think multimedia) 2. you should really think if you always have to have the latest version of a library. a) first of all it is easier for users if they dont have to upgrade libraries. b) updating libraries can break other user applications. c) in the past we didnt had a new library packaging policy so installing multiple versions of a library isnt as easy as it will be with 10.3 or later. of course you could apply the same policy to your newer packages. (packman does that already) hope this helps, darix -- openSUSE - SUSE Linux is my linux openSUSE is good for you www.opensuse.org --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+help@opensuse.org
