IMHO it should continue to support the Debian way of providing an .orig.tar.gz, .diff and .dsc file. That being said, I've converted my Debian builds to just provide a .dsc file and a debian.tar.gz in addition to the usual <package>.tar.bz2 (as used by RPM) and it's working fine for me.
