http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=947986 Bug ID: 947986 Summary: Encrypted LVM not possible with Tumbleweed as logical volumes are lost Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Factory Version: 2015* Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation Assignee: yast2-maintainers@suse.de Reporter: arnold.mesper@mailinator.com QA Contact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- I used the graphical installer of openSUSE-Tumbleweed-NET-x86_64-Snapshot20150924-Media.iso to perform a clean install with an encrypted LVM, but it failed Steps: 1. go to Expert Partitioner and delete partitioning scheme proposed by installer 2. add a primary partition for /boot (formatted as Ext4) 3. add a Linux LVM and check "Encrypt Device" (workaround required: switch file system ID to Linux and back to Linux LVM) 4. add a volume group with the above only included 5. add 3 logical volumes to the volume group: for swap, / (Ext4) and /home (Ext4) 6. press accept The following message is shown in red: "Nothing assigned as root filesystem! Installation will most certainly fail fatally! When entering the Expert Partitioner, the 3 logical volumes are missing. With openSUSE-Leap-42.1-NET-x86_64-Build0197-Media.iso this error does not show up. Btw, I would also suggest that you add the beta distribution popup window to the Tumbleweed installer (as in the Leap installer) and delete "stabilized and tested" from the webpage - at least until critical bugs like this one are solved. Otherwise unexperienced users like me might be tempted to install it in a productive environment, get frusted and give up on Linux :-( -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
