Ok, I'm going to start a discussion upstream, but I guess we should first
internally agree on an approach.
I can see several options:
1. disable systemd management for optional mounts
2. make sure that systemd only automounts an fstab entry at the first device
appearance, e.g. during system boot
3. disable the systemd automount feature whenever a manual umount command is
executed for a particular mount point
If you see more options, please add them.
IMHO, option 1 is the easiest to implement, but might not get accepted
upstream.
The most user friendly one, is probably option 2, as it combines the event
driven behaviour of systemd, and the oneshot behaviour of SystemV mount.
Not really sure how to implement this, though.
Option 3 would either require an additional command (as stated in comment #29),
or a modification of the mount/umount code to automatically mask/unmask the
mount unit.
So, what would be the best method that is acceptable by users and upstream?
