Ok, the nonworking initrd got overwritten somehow in the process of getting the
system to boot again.
I don't know, but it looked like grub picked up all initrds and kernels it
could find in /boot and from the titles it generated the intention was to make
an entry for every root filesystem it could find, no matter what suse version
that was. Just that it did not use the root filesystems in the kernel line but
always the same from the first entry.
But that's history. I copied the reiser root fs over to a new ext4 lv. The
initrd could mount that and so I have a working system again. Good bye reiserfs
root fs :(
Of course the original problems are still here (no emergency shell and lvmetad
needs to be disabled).
Additionaly sometimes kde tries the autologin before home is mounted. I think
it is every time some filesystem (not necessarily /home) has a long running fs
check. I can live with that for now.
