https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=833237 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=833237#c0 Summary: udev seems no longer to work correctly with attaching an IPOD Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Factory Version: 13.1 Milestone 3 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SUSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: tittiatcoke@gmail.com QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=551070) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=551070) dmesg output when the IPOD is connected User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/30.0.1575.0 Safari/537.36 SUSE/30.0.1575.0 It seems that udev no longer works flawlessly with IPOD devices. This is not due to the systemd 206 update, but systemd 204 also had the same issue. The normal routine is that if I insert an USB stick, the system recognizes the usb stick and creates the /dev/sd.. devices for it's filesystems. Also the KDE Device Notifier directly indicates that there is a device that can be mounted. If I now connect an IPOD (Classic 160Gb), then nothing at first happens. Checking dmesg I see that the kernel is recognizing that an IPOD is attached. However I do not see any devices listed. Neither in the KDE Device Notifier, nor do I see that udev has created the corresponding /dev/sd.. devices. After about 2 minutes, I see that the main filesystem (in my case /dev/sdb) was created. 2 minutes later finally the partition device was also created (/dev/sdb1). However the KDE notifier doesn't notice anything. Plugging in an USB memory stick, directly gives me the filesystems, as can be seen below: brw-rw---- 1 root disk 8, 8 Aug 3 16:45 /dev/sda8 brw------- 1 root root 8, 16 Aug 3 18:35 /dev/sdb brw------- 1 root root 8, 17 Aug 3 18:37 /dev/sdb1 brw-rw---- 1 root disk 8, 32 Aug 3 18:47 /dev/sdc brw-rw---- 1 root disk 8, 33 Aug 3 18:47 /dev/sdc1 /dev/sdb is the IPOD /dev/sdc is the USB memory stick Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Plug in an IPOD 2. Watch that nothing happens 3. Actual Results: Filesystems for the IPOD are created very slow in contradiction to the fast creation of the filesystems for a memory stick. I can manually mount the IPOD filesystem and then I can use a music player to play the content. Expected Results: IPOD recognized and correctly handled, so that I can mount the device through the device notifier and start using it. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
