There aren't much updates about the sound component, at least, in the
user-space library level, for openSUSE 12.3. You're using openSUSE 12.3, not
FACTORY, right?
The highest probability is PulseAudio. But it's difficult to say how did you
test what.
There might be some changes in kernel, but then it must be pretty specific to
hardware. It's hard to tell without knowing the hardware details.
In anyway, please give alsa-info.sh output. Run it with --no-upload option and
attach (don't paste) to bugzilla.
And please be specific what you tested and what didn't work as expected. There
are big differences between the built-in mic on the laptop or the mic plugged
to the mic jack, for example. The behavior might be different when you record
via arecord or via skype. It might be different if you record in a different
format.
