However, the current version of whatis correctly writes that message to stderr rather than stdout, so the suppression attempt fails. This, in turn, produces daily e-mails from the suse-do_mandb cron job. (YMMV; I run a nonstandard cron that mails stderr.) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. As root, type "makewhatis" on a system with at least some languages not installed. 2. Type "whatis -M/usr/share/man/pt_PT -w '*'" on a system without Portuguese to demonstrate that the message comes from whatis. 3. Type "whatis -M/usr/share/man/pt_PT -w '*' 2>/dev/null" to demonstrate that the message is being sent to stderr. Actual Results: *: nothing appropriate Expected Results: makewhatis should produce no output. makewhatis line 107 is the culprit. The fix should be easy: just redirect stderr into the non-pipe pipe. (Why aren't they using a pipe, anyway?
