--- Comment #6 from Cristian Morales Vega 2012-12-08 14:06:33 UTC ---
That warning comes from a call to
update-mime-database /usr/share/mime/
to... well update the MIME database.
It comes from /usr/share/mime/packages/kde.xml, provided by kdelibs4.
The contents of the file include
---------------
<!-- all/ fake mime types -->
<mime-type type="all/all">
<comment>all files and folders</comment>
</mime-type>
<mime-type type="all/allfiles">
<comment>all files</comment>
</mime-type>
<!-- uri/ fake mime types -->
<mime-type type="uri/mms">
<comment>mms: URIs</comment>
</mime-type>
<mime-type type="uri/mmst">
<comment>mmst: URIs</comment>
</mime-type>
<mime-type type="uri/mmsu">
<comment>mmsu: URIs</comment>
</mime-type>
<mime-type type="uri/pnm">
<comment>pnm: URIs</comment>
</mime-type>
<mime-type type="uri/rtspt">
<comment>rtspt: URIs</comment>
</mime-type>
<mime-type type="uri/rtspu">
<comment>rtspu: URIs</comment>
</mime-type>
---------------
I don't know why KDE needs a MIME type to represent "all files and folders".
But I guess it is a way as good as any other to do that, and that there is
actually a need to have a representation.
Finally, update-mime-database code includes
---------------
/* This is the list of directories to scan when finding old type files to
* delete. It is also used to warn about invalid MIME types.
*/
const char *media_types[] = {
"text",
"application",
"image",
"audio",
"inode",
"video",
"message",
"model",
"multipart",
"x-content",
"x-epoc",
"x-scheme-handler",
};
---------------
So, possible solutions:
- Accept the warning since it's actually something weird
- Modify update-mime-database to accept those MIME types without complain
- Modify KDE to not need them
Given that I also can't find any .desktop file with an all/all MIME type entry
in my KDE4 installation I put kde-maintainers in NEEDINFO. Guys, do you know if
those MIME types are still needed by KDE4?
I also assign it to Vincent since this is not related to KDE3 (unless it's
shown that only KDE3 needs it). And leave Ilya CC.
