SysV configuration data might be overridden by native systemd configuration. purge-kernels 0:off 1:off 2:off 3:on 4:off 5:on 6:off So sysv scripts are ok. linux-q652:~ # systemctl status purge-kernels.service purge-kernels.service - Purge old kernels Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/purge-kernels.service; disabled) Active: inactive (dead) CGroup: name=systemd:/system/purge-kernels.service But systemd unit is not. It is still claimed to be migrated: linux-q652:~ # ll /var/lib/systemd/migrated/purge-kernels -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 Sep 23 09:15 /var/lib/systemd/migrated/purge-kernels Other enabled sysvinit scripts for which systemd units are disabled: nscd.service sshd.service I cannot tell so far why it affects some but not all other services.
