https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=764134 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=764134#c0 Summary: HP controller P410i OpenSuSE 11.3 upgrade to 11.4 or 12.1 fails Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.1 Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: claudio.prono@atpss.net QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.0; rv:12.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/12.0 On hardware with p410i RAID controller DVD update fails, from 11.3 to 11.4 or 12.1, because with new kernels it uses hpsa for the hard disk controller, previously is used cciss. Hpsa labels devices like /dev/sd[x], cciss with /dev/cciss/c0d[x]p[x]. Also, with a live upgrade, after the first reboot the system won't boot (unable to mount VFS root). http://cciss.sourceforge.net/ "NOTE: The hpsa driver is a SCSI driver, while the cciss driver is a block driver. This means that logical drives which would be presented with devices nodes like "/dev/cciss/c0d0", etc. will now be presented as "/dev/sda", etc. " Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. install OpenSuSE 11.3 on an hardware with HP P410i RAID controller 2. Upgrade with dvd or live update 3. System fails to boot or upgrade The big fix can be "the installer recognize the problem before the upgrade, fix it before or after the upgrade, then the system boot normally" The small fix can be " the installer recognize the problem before the upgrade, and give to the user the fix (manual fix)" -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
