Michael thanks so much for the package, then I will be able to test more deeply
this week-end if I can't restart my factory vms.

In the meantime, I'm in a hurry at work and don't want to block you,
the time I create a grub2-branding package 

I've prepared in the attached tar.gz my idea how it should work
having default ratio png and a bunch of links for them with the corresponding
video size. 
I believe this is less disturbing for end-users 


ps : did you think to use video= on the boot line in place of old vga= 
the new kernel 3.4 now shout a deprecate warning if you use vga=
