Don't know what caused it or where it is happening (sorry). Was running
TrueCrypt to format a new container file, reading e-mail in Thunderbird, had a
bunch of web sites open in Firefox, and a spreadsheet open in LibreOffice. The
General Protection Fault message popped up in a notification thing from the
panel. The display reverted to "cloned" images on my laptop and the external
monitor. I re-configured the display and everything appears to be running just
fine.

Looked in /var/log/messages and found these messages (pasted below in
"Additional Information").
