Hi,

There are known problems with Cinnamon and __some__ versions of the nvidia
proprietary driver (.173 and .280 are well known to have issues with it). My
first advice would be to use a binary driver older than .280 and higher than
.173.

I'm going to make a test release with no RPATH values in the hope it fixes
this. I need also to investigate what the nvidia driver is doing on people's
systems, for example if it replaces/sym_links the standard libraries for
proprietary ones, which if this is case might be the cause for this.

Keep an eye on this bug report as I will work with upstream to identify and try
to fix this (I know upstream is loaded with nvidia cards).
