I'm currently running on OpenSuse11.4 - this problem has been present on all
PREVIOUS versions where I've run a wireless connection.

I'll have re-create the problem and then do a DMESG. I'll post that shortly in
another comment. From memory, I don't think anything useful appears though (I
would have looked at this earlier).
I know this isn't exactly what you asked for - applying the current kernel
probably isn't completely straightforward. If I swap hard-drives over and
install 12.1 with all the patches to date, will that put the 3.3 kernel you
mention in place? I ask because setting up the likely test scenario you mention
is likely to take a whole day to perform. I have only tried 12.1 very briefly
and had a major issue straight away because the installer wouldn't talk to the
screen, so I have settled on 11.4 for now. You can appreciate that I don't want
to undertake a huge job unless it really is going to be beneficial!
