I was able to reproduce this. The reason is that
/usr/share/smolt/client/simplejson/__init__.pyc
is not owned by any package according to rpm -qf, which points to the files
having been created while smoltSendProfile was run as root, since root is the
only user able to do writes in that location. Fn fact, the .pyc files date back
to
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 9715 Sep 16 2009 decoder.pyc
which is probably when I first ran smolt before I deactivated it.
# file *pyc
[...]
decoder.pyc: python 2.6 byte-compiled
encoder.pyc: python 2.6 byte-compiled
scanner.pyc: python 2.6 byte-compiled
Since openSUSE 12.1 ships with 2.7, the error message makes sense. But can't
python just ignore old pyc files?
