IMHO this is a BIOS problem, the BIOS has to recognize keystrokes and provide
them to grub. All recent machines here and at home have USB keyboards and
grub menu reacts fine on keystroke. When grub is running linux kernel is
not yet loaded and grub has to rely exclusively on BIOS capabilities.
Reassigning to grub maintainer. Maybe there are some special grub options
to handle such a case, but as far as I see, this is simply a broken BIOS.
