https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=751667 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=751667#c0 Summary: KDE Auto Updater Fails to Find and Execute Huge Numbers of Updates Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: RC 2 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.4 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Update Problems AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: scott@aphofis.com QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:10.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/10.0.1 I have all main and necessary software repositories configured in Yast. I have been relying on the new KDE Software Updates - KDE Control Module to locate and install all the updates and it does this sort of o.k apart from looking clumsy. After relying on the auto updater I went into Yast and used online update - to my surprise there were greater than 50+ updates that took over 1 hour to update -The problem is the KDE updater cannot do its job and I have no idea why the opensuse updater was removed. When the KDE Software Updater requests escalation to root I can enter either the plain user password or the root password and Im inclined to think it will accept any system or user password to escalate its authority to root With respect to the KpackageKit Software Management - Burn it! Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.See above 100% reproducible for me...I dont know what logs to give you so if you can be precise I can wrap the lost into a shrink file with only one or two upload files 2. 3. Actual Results: Its sux Expected Results: It works without errors taxing the hell out of the bug fixing team..I dont know why we can spend longer testing and releasing a new version when its ready. The current calendar driven release schedule costs hundreds of man hours to fix the bug and its not possible with limited resources. I hate the vast number of bugs and the huge commitment to the developers that could be almost halted if we released a new version, when its ready and when its tested o.k with no date deadline... As Im not one to be shy...I would really like to have a constructive email conversation with the responsible person who sets the release schedules of opensuse and its policy...I would just like to understand why releases are calendar scheduled...nothing to do with better more bug free software...we get the next version release date and thats it.....Period...done deal. If its o.k can I have the email address for this person who makes the decisions - I want to understand why and stop worrying about all the enormous amount of bugs the developers have to deal with..in a past life I wrote code at the coal face and created RFC or trouble reports in PMS...Im not ignorant in that respect! Or if that person wants to email me you and half the world have the address ;-) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
