Summary: kernel (default and desktop) crash while boot (smp
issue)
Classification: openSUSE
Product: openSUSE 12.1
Version: Final
Platform: i686
OS/Version: openSUSE 12.1
Status: NEW
Severity: Normal
Priority: P5 - None
Component: Kernel
AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
ReportedBy: lmuelle@xxxxxxxx
QAContact: qa@xxxxxxx
Found By: Development
Blocker: No
Booting the 3.1.9-1.4 default or desktop kernel leads to a hanging crash while
boot.
No sysrq keys works. Two keyboard lights are flashing.
Booting the kernel with the additional argument nosmp leads to a booting
system.
oscar:~ # cat /proc/cmdline
root=/dev/disk/by-id/scsi-SATA_Maxtor_6Y080M0_Y2DCH9SE-part1
resume=/dev/disk/by-id/ata-Maxtor_6Y080M0_Y2DCH9SE-part2 splash=silent
vga=0x31a nosmp
The same applies to kernel-default-3.2.2-4.1.i586.rpm from the Tumbleweed
project.
Booting kernel-desktop-2.6.37.6-0.11.1 (the current one for openSUSE 11.4)
works without the additional nosmp argument.
