https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=744309 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=744309#c0 Summary: postfix doesn't start when running on a ipv4-only configured system Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.1 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Other AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: mail@staffan.tjernstrom.name QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:9.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/9.0.1 The default configuration for postfix in /etc/postfix/main.cf has the lines inet_interfaces = loopback-only inet_protocols = all According to http://www.postfix.org/postconf.5.html#inet_protocols this should not attempt to perform ipv6 lookups if ipv6 isn't available. However, I have my system set up for ipv4 only, and I get the following error messages in /var/log/mail when I try to start postfix Jan 30 18:07:44 linux postfix[27348]: fatal: parameter inet_interfaces: no local interface found for ::1 Jan 30 18:07:45 linux postfix[27353]: fatal: parameter inet_interfaces: no local interface found for ::1 Jan 31 06:42:28 bypass postfix[32039]: fatal: parameter inet_interfaces: no local interface found for ::1 Jan 31 07:48:01 bypass postfix[2004]: fatal: parameter inet_interfaces: no local interface found for ::1 Manually changing /etc/postfix/main.cf to the line inet_protocols=ipv4 makes everything work. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Make sure IPv6 is not enabled in yast->network devices->global settings, and that there are no IPv6 addresses configured on any NICs (including /etc/hosts) 2. Install postfix (eg zypper in postfix) 3. chkconfig postfix on followed by service postfix start Actual Results: service postfix start redirecting to systemctl Job failed. See system logs and 'systemctl status' for details. Expected Results: service postfix start redirecting to systemctl -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
