--- Comment #7 from Jean Delvare 2012-01-16 20:36:18 UTC ---
The root cause is that the iptables archive is compressed with xz, and the
output of "file" on xz-compressed files has changed in openSUSE 12.1: "XZ
compressed data" instead of "xz compressed data", notice the case change. quilt
expects the latter. The upstream fix for this is:
http://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/quilt.git/commit/?id=0b1f605c5d5db8b77a4e0d...
Pretty simple.
Whether this is worth a maintenance update depends on how popular xz-compressed
archives become. And I suspect they will become increasingly popular over time,
so I tend to agree with Jan, a maintenance update would be good to have. If we
go for an update, I think it would make sense to include the workaround for bug
#628258 as well.
Maintenance team, what's your take? Do we start a maintenance update for quilt
now, or do we wait a bit in case more issues are reported, or...?
