I also noticed that this actually doesn't happen always. It seems to happen
only at some locations (might be some weird AP<->wifi interaction).
I'm encountering the same problem. Using iwlagn, wpa_supplicant hangs for a few
seconds when the router changes the wpa key. During this time, no network
connection is existing. Setting "key lifetime" in the router configuration to a
long period, e.g. 60 min, reduces the problem. System: Opensuse 12.1,
wpa_supplicant v0.7.3.
