if you want to better understand systemd, I suggest reading
http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/systemd (the part called systemd for
administrators)

So, sendmail is shipping with systemd .service, which means initscript are not
used at all (and it looks like it doesn't follow the systemd packaging
guidelines too cf http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Systemd_packaging_guidelines
)
