Good evening, i just updated to KDE 4.7.3 the upstream version of KDE and i
have noticed that the desktop effects still cannot be activated unless a reboot
of the OS is not made.
Here is a link to a screen shoot made after effects being enabled:

As you can see instead of a message showing that i must apply the effects
during a time frame of a few seconds i get that notification about a
malfunction.
openSUSE 12.1 with Tumbleweed(Tumbleweed repo is empty at the moment so i`m
running plain stable version), KDE 4.7.3, under a 64 bit system, with Nvidia
driver 285.05.09 installed for my Nvidia GeForce 9400 GT.
