This is what I have been doing in 11.4 so that I don't have to waste CDs or
DVDs.
Because I do not use ms windows I skip all instructions from:
http://en.opensuse.org/Live_USB_stick pertaining to ms W.
1. download whatever ISO DVD or live or network I wish to try out and pretend
to test from http://software.opensuse.org/ or from
http://download.opensuse.org/factory/iso/
2. This step is not necessary for LiveCDs.
http://en.opensuse.org/Live_USB_stick states: "You'll need to look at the USB
DVD section below if you don't want to install from a LiveCD image."
if necessary # zypper in syslinux
# isohybrid Downloads/openSUSE-NET-x86_64-Build0381-Media.iso
3. then I open imagewriter and write the image to USB.
May want to verify that the USB is boot-able.
# fdisk /dev/sdc then p will show:
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sdc1 * 0 532479 266240 17 Hidden HPFS/NTFS
