No problem
I have for the last about 15 years a Linux person that has never had this
overlooking /etc/inittab which is not being overlooked which this 12.1 B1
system is missing. I come from way back in Xenix and SCO UNIX and turned into
Linux and none of them ever missed /etc/inittab change to 3 and X went to tty7
on all past versions. Now when I login as tty6 as a user and execute a startx
(in runlevel 3) I am not just a FVWM2 or KDE3/4 user. I do use the console
almost more than KDE4.
/etc /inittab - I used vi and changed it from 5
# The default runlevel is defined here.
id:3:initdefault:
I set runlevel during the install from 5 to 3 which was not carried to the
working system after a reboot.
The problem is that runlevel 3 startx always has gone to /dev/tty7 and in this
version it goes not sure where. X does work OK but second guessing where the X
server is after going to the console and back is pure guess work.
"startx" (echo $WINDOWMANAGER) which this system does do correctly with.
I hope this clears up any confusion.
