I confirm this bug. 
I got this bug on openSUSE 11.4 32-bit after update to KDE 4.7.1 (repo
openSUSE) and also on the clear system openSUSE 11.4 64-bit on the notebook.

console output is here: 
kmail2(6428)/libakonadi
Akonadi::SpecialCollectionsRequestJobPrivate::resourceScanResult: Failed to
request resource "akonadi_maildir_resource_0".
2. 
console output under root (su): 
A.
kmail
unnamed app(6660)/kontact (interfaces): Cannot find the D-Bus session server
B.
dbus-launch kmail
In this case (p.2B) -> kmail works OK.
