I believe a mechanism as kdesu or running imagewriter as root is not required
as the user logged in to the desktop environment get the required permissions
granted.
Example from my current KDE desktop after login as user I see:
lmuelle@giles:~> LC_ALL=POSIX getfacl --tab /dev/sr0
getfacl: Removing leading '/' from absolute path names
# file: dev/sr0
USER root rw-
user lmuelle rw-
GROUP cdrom rw-
mask rw-
other ---
The "user lmuelle rw-" permission got added while login. Therefore I would be
able to burn a media without being root.
