https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=704797 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=704797#c0 Summary: IF sm-notify Fails to Find its Corresponding NFS Server the Boot Process Stalls for Over 10minutes Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: scott@aphofis.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-GB; rv:1.9.2.17) Gecko/20110420 SUSE/3.6.17-0.2.1 Firefox/3.6.17 Situation: PC0 runs NFS Client Services (non NFS V4) to its NFS Server IP'(s) and Mount Point(s) Shut-down PC1 which holds the 'Corresponding' NFS Server(s) (non NFS V4) Restart PC0. PC) will boot until sm-notify is launched. - As the corresponding NFS Server(s) are not available; sm-notify will wait and not time out for at least 12 minutes. Adding 12 minutes to the boot process of ANY PC is far far far too long a time out value. I would suggest 30 Seconds at most. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Configure NFS Server(s) (non-V4) == PC1 2. Configure a Corresponding NFS Client (non-V4) == PC0 3. Re-start PC0 and observe that sm-notify find the corresponding NFS Server(s) 4. Shut-down PC1 5. Restart PC0 and observe that sm-notify will halt the boot process at sm-notify and stay there until time-out and boot process continues. The issue is that the time out value is in excess of 10 minutes rather than say, 30 Seconds 100% REPRODUCIBLE Actual Results: The total boot process of the NFS Client as above, is greater than 10 minutes Expected Results: The time-out value should be no more than 30Seconds and would strongly recommend that all sm-notify functions be placed in the Kernel rather than sm-notify. There may be quite good reasons for having sm-notify load so late in boot process, as the corresponding IP address has not yet been assigned. I would think that this should be have a re-occuring nature as we should not have to reboot a PC to have it pick up its corresponding NFS Partner CLASSIFICATION - Not sure where to lodge this bug classification QA - Could you please evaluate the Classification!! -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
