Summary: nautilus text preview is broken
Classification: openSUSE
Product: openSUSE 11.4
Version: Final
Platform: All
OS/Version: openSUSE 11.4
Status: NEW
Severity: Normal
Priority: P5 - None
Component: GNOME
AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Text file preview (enabled in nautilus via: edit -> preferences -> preview ->
show text in icons) is broken on openSUSE 11.4 (with the versions described
below) with all* icon themes.
* I just checked the ones openSUSE comes by default + Tango.
GNOME:
Version: 2.32.1
Distributor: SUSE
GNOME nautilus: 2.32.2.1
Things I've done so far:
I found out that nautilus relies on an icon named 'text-x-preview' and an icon
file with the same name. After creating one from the default Tango text icon,
and creating a new icon file for it, nothing happened. I examined a Ubuntu
install, and found 3 other .icon files: 'empty', 'gnome-fs-regular' and
'gtk-file'. These are only links to the above mentioned 'text-x-preview.icon'
file.
Creating the same environment in my /usr/share/icons/Tango/scalable/mimetypes
folder, I successfully fixed the problem.
Currently I have my own custom Tango icon for preview, and an .icon file that
looks good with "my settings" (meaning here my: resolution, theme settings,
icon size, whatever).
I guess each icon theme's package's maintainer should examine his/her package
that it supplies the text-x-preview icon, and get one if not.
I'll attach my Tango icon (I just deleted the grey lines from the icon, so it
should be fine, but contacting the creators should be a good idea.).
I will also attach my .icon file (only the text-x-preview.icon one, do not
forget the 3 links!), that I tweaked so it looks cool for me. (I do not
understand the numbers in the configuration file, someone should tell us how it
works, as this setting only works for one specific resolution.)
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Enable text file preview in nautilus
2. Examine text files in nautilus and see no text
Actual Results:
Normal text icons show.
Expected Results:
Preview icon is displayed with text inside.
