Hrm, then my expectation was wrong. C-media codec has no analog-loopback
circuit.
It means that something (a program) had to feed the data from line-in to
output. Did you use any sound-server on your old system? Otherwise it can't
be explained.
Anyway, another option would be to load the loopback PA module. You can do it
manually like below:
% echo "load-module module-loopback" | pacmd
Then choose "Line" as capture source.
