Some time ago I had the feeling that it depends on how you specify the LogicalVolumePath arg. AFAIR I never got this race again when I was really using the LogicalVolumePath system/test2 instead of path to device /dev/system/test2 Maybe there is some kind of lookup "get lvm path from the given device" which causes the device still being used when trying to remove it.
