As root "xinit -- /usr/bin/X -br :0 vt7 &"
X comes up with just an xterm.
# startkde
KDE Session came up as root.

Repeated the sequence above
# su lancelot
<Password>
$ startkde
KDE session comes up. My previous session loads and it all looks OK except
xcalc doesn't render properly.

In the latest log there is no "Close" sequence that starts with "Power Button
Close" that I get on boot up straight to init 5 or doing "init 5" from runlevel
3.
