As I said in comment #8: This happened with my existing homedir, but never with
a fresh user with a "clean" homedir. Therefore asking for a fresh install is
pointless ;-)

The interesting thing is that I also can't reproduce it now - umounting an USB
stick or a SD card works without entering the root password. Looks like some
update "accidently" fixed it :-)
Therefore I'm closing the bug as fixed myself...
