some more details.
I have a multiboot install. Windows 7 first (pre-installed), then 11.3, then
11.4.
11.3 is on sda6, 11.4 is on sda7.
When the problem begun, 11.3 grub was installed on the mbr (yast) and 11.4 on
extended and the active flag as shown on sda3 (extended) as installed by yast
when I installed 11.4.
With this, I first see the 11.4 menu, that send me to 11.3 menu (manually
adjusted) and from this I get 11.3 kde. The cascade is purpose, because I will
sooner or later switch to 11.4.
When I tried to use the one time boot option, I got the 11.4 menu then Windows
(good).
But next boot I had still windows... and no grub menu (and no way to stop the
11.3 first stage grub, may be too fast - it's an i5 computer).
I could go to the grub line editor from the 11.4 menu, and using kernel,
initrd, boot, boot the 11.3 install, but this still didn't unactive the instant
windows boot!
Changing the active flag from sda3 to sda1 was worst: it was Windows that
started right away, no more 11.4, so no more grub menu, I had to start a rescue
system and use fdisk to restore the active flag to sda3.
I finally solved the problem asking yast from 11.3 to change grub from mbr to
root partition. This removed the instant windows start. But it's not possible
to have an active flag on sda6 (logical).
