There is a possibility that this wireless problem is specific to KDE4 and not
to Gnome.
A user in openSUSE forum noted they had a problem with a Dell Studio 1747
laptop with Intel wireless when booting to a 64-bit openSUSE-11.4 GM version
KDE but not when booting to Gnome. I suspect (not certain) they have the same
Intel wireless as I have on my Dell Studio 1537 (which has the problem noted in
this bug report).
So to test I booted the Dell Studo 1537 laptop noted in this bug report
(w/Intel Wifi 5300 AGN wireless) to a 64-bit openSUSE-11.4 GM liveCD. I
connected to our same home wireless LAN (that I connected with KDE with the
above reported problem) but in the case of Gnome the wireless did not fail
after 5 to 15 minutes.
After 1 hour the wireless is still functioning. Wireless did not work as long
in my KDE tests (never more than 15 minutes). A Fluke ?
This is a possible 'fluke' and I'll keep testing (this week if I can, but I'm
about to go on vacation for a week and it may not be possible). But IF this
bug turns out to be KDE specific, would that not point the finger of the
problem at knetworkmanger ?
In which case, are there KDE or other log files I should provide if I boot to
the KDE live CD (in addition to the log files I provided previous) ?
