I am afraid I assume we cannot help you here because
it could be a bug in the driver for this particular model
but we neither have your particular model (or any model
which uses the xerox_mfp driver) to reproduce it
nor do we have model-specific knowledge to fix bugs
in scanner drivers.
To verify whether or not is is a driver issue,
downgrade the sane-backends-1.0.22 in openSUSE 11.4
to sane-backends-1.0.21 from openSUSE 11.3
e.g. download sane-backends-1.0.21-3.5.x86_64.rpm from
http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/11.3/repo/oss/suse/x86_64/
Does it work with sane-backends-1.0.21 from openSUSE 11.3?
If you like to debug the issue on your own, see
http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Configuring_Scanners
"Trouble-Shooting (Debugging)"
Of course you can attach debug-messages (as MIME type "text/plain)
to this bug - perhaps I find a reason why it does not work
but likely I cannot help in this case.
When you got debug-messages, you may contact
the upstream developers of SANE, e.g. via mail, see
http://www.sane-project.org/mailing-lists.html
or you may submit a bug report to SANE, see
http://www.sane-project.org/bugs.html
