https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=678308 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=678308#c0 Summary: sntp hang on boot: Error looking up 0.opensuse.pool.ntp.org Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: drankinatty@suddenlinkmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- There is a bug in sntp that causes boot to hang with the error: Mar 9 13:57:36 localhost sntp[3867]: Started sntp Mar 9 13:58:17 localhost sntp[3867]: Error looking up 0.opensuse.pool.ntp.org: Name or service not known Booting to runlevel 5 you will get the display manager greeter. Booting to runlevel 3, you will NOT get a login prompt. I had to boot with the net.iso cd and disable ntp with 'chkconfig ntp off'. It looks like adding ntp servers will fix the problem 'rcntp addserver <ip-address>'. After adding a server, ntp starts fine. It looks like there is something wrong with the default '0.opensuse.pool.ntp.org' server. Either it won't allow connections or just doesn't respond properly. Maybe there needs to be a change in defaults or a new default server added? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
