Hi Jeff,
Finally have minicom and dependencies installed from .rpms on this laptop to
confirm that the RS232 link is working correctly to the desktop that is to
collect the console log. The laptop does not have a serial port connection on
it, so in the past (SUSE 10.1) I used a USB to serial port device to get a
serial port which becomes device /dev/ttyUSB0 even with openSUSE 11.3.
When I try to boot the Kernel with console=ttyUSB0,115200 or console=ttyS0
or console=ttyS0 the system on the laptop does not boot up. I get some
initial text on a VGA screen then the green splash screen and that's it the
machine halts. The Kernel paramters web site says that the default settings for
console=____,bbbbpnf is 9600n8 so I changed the minicoms to that and tried with
the console=ttyUSB0 but still nothing.
Since the desktop was installed from the same DVD I tried this in reverse with
the default baud rate and console=ttyS0 which worked the first time.
I do not know what else to try other than re-install the system to see if the
console starts to work then capture the first system crash.
Do you have any other suggestions?
Thanks Bruce.
