Summary: Delayed boot and heavy disc activity
Classification: openSUSE
Product: openSUSE 11.3
Version: Final
Platform: i586
OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3
Status: NEW
Severity: Normal

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.2.13)
Gecko/20101203 SUSE/3.6.13-0.2.1 Firefox/3.6.13

On every new start, I see KDE taking longtime to bring up desktop after login.
This happens only on first login. If I log-out and re-login, I see no such
delay.Also,on first login,the battery applet(laptop) shows 'no battery'.If I
relogin, the battery is recognised. During logging in, I see heavy disk
activity and it is not possible to move mouse or even do a ctrl+alt+F1.

When the KDE is logging in, if I manage to shift to Console 1, I see bootsplash
and still incomplete. If I press ESC to see what is going on, seems like in a
waiting state and usually the last line in the Console message is about HAL.

It appears to me that for some reason HAL start is delayed, and that in turn
delays KDE start.

This had happened to me with OS 11.2 and 11.1 also. After about 4-5 months of
installation, this happens and when I re-installed everything again, it went
off.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Just start the system after cold-shutdown
2.
3.
