I have now 11.3 with 2.6.34.7-0.5-desktop, and this flag's behaviour has
changed in the meantime. I have tested again :
1 - With yast, using sysconfig editor, i have settled "KBD_NUMLOCK=yes", and
have checked the variable in /etc/sysconfig/keyboard. I have rebooted my PC and
i can see that numlock light is on, and numeric keypad is working.
2 - Same thing, but i have settled "KBD_NUMLOCK=bios" and have restarted my PC.
The BIOS turns on the LED, but it turns off after booting openSUSE.
You may notice that setting sysconfig variable to "KBD_NUMLOCK=yes" and simply
restarting kbd service is not enough to get a working numeric keypad.
What I was meaning with "at start time" is the numeric keypad status before KDE
starts. You can go also through KDE configuration, select "computer
administration", "keyboard and mice", "keyboard" and choose to
activate/deactivate or let numeric keypad in same state.
In fact, we have to consider :
1 - NUMLOCK keyboard at boot time (BIOS)
2 - NUMLOCK keyboard at system level 3 (running service kbd), and the problem
raised by this bug report
3 - NUMLOCK keyboard at system level 5 (graphical desktop)
This may be a BIOS problem. I have an ASUS P5K-E WiFi/AP with latest BIOS
v1305.
