Hi, thanks for report. At first I think that it doesn't work because your debian doesn't have own boot part on sda1 ( so partition MBR is empty). This cause we cannot chainload to partition.
No, SuSE deleted my MBR, the GRUB2 of debian what there. (I reported this bug https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=650653)
Second option is point to your menu.lst on your debian ( this method is create menu section), but YaST2 doesn't found it. Do you have on your debian file /boot/grub/menu.lst ? Or you use lilo?
I have GRUB2, configuration file I attached.
We doesn't add directly debian kernel because we cannot update it when debian update (e.g. via security update) its kernel.
