i'm experiencing a similar problem; don't know if it's the same though. please
let me know if i should file a separate bug.
system: intel core2 duo @ 2.59 GHz, 4 GB RAM
openSUSE 11.3, KDE 4.5.2 (factory repo)
uname -a: Linux phani 2.6.36-rc8-34-desktop #1 SMP PREEMPT 2010-10-21 10:11:03
+0200 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
card: nvidia 9400 GT (fairly recent, but cheap card; 1 GB memory, PCI-express)
driver: 260.19.12 (.run file)
in my case openOffice starts and is usable, but crashes when i try to "view
data sources" (F4). i've seen this earlier, but then changing from openJDK java
to SUN solved the problem. now i was already using sun java 1.6, and tried 1.5
& 1.7 as well, which didn't affect the crash (Java:/sun:/Factory).
the crash happens every time i try to "view data sources," using
openOffice.org:Stable & openOffice.org:Unstable from oS repos, as well as
libreOffice. doesn't depend on the latest nvidia driver (260.19.12), but
disappears when not using KDE, i.e., 'awesome' windows manager.
the crash also does NOT happen when using tarballs from
http://www.openoffice.org/ -- stable or RC 3.3, under KDE 4.5.2, with either
version of java, with or without nvidia, run fine.
