It seems OK for me - I have tested my two 11.3-final systems and both have just
kernel-desktop installed.
Even after adding the kernel development pattern there is still just one kernel
(kernel-default-devel and -xen-devel are added, but these packages just contain
some development files, i.e. there is no real kernel to boot, no kernel
drivers, etc.).
The attached log shows the same behavior: kernel-desktop is installed,
kernel-default is missing (there is just kernel-default-devel).
