re: 2) i actually tried that when i tried to install 11.3 on my laptop:
reducing the partition size, even creating a boot partition -- no improvement
.. i cannot give you any logs for that, though, because i installed 11.3 on my
laptop the way as i described in comment 2 ...
re: 3) working on getting the logs from the desktop installation ... i have not
forgotten, but i am kind of swamped with other stuff right now ...
