As Nisha has experienced this is quite a dangerous bug that can cause data loss
of a file in this quite easy to reproduce situation:
1) Open a file in openoffice, inkscape, etc from an ftp mount
2) Modify file to make it larger than it was (say adding several slides to an
initially very empty Powerpoint)
3) Press save
In cases where the file takes more than a few seconds to save back to the FTP
server you can encounter this stall and then the application freezes (some
better behaved apps do eventually time out). In all cases the original file is
corrupted and the changes can be lost depending on the app (gimp seems to
recover if you are very patient).
We should either fix this or disable ftp in gvfs to protect our users. Raising
to Critical as there is possible data lose.
